Manager - Intentional Peer Support and Training

Summary:
Provides leadership and supervision to our Intentional Peer Support Specialist team as they apply the tools that they have developed in their own recovery as well as the philosophy and values of Intentional Peer Support. The Intentional Peer Support Specialists meet with participants and build connections, consider worldviews, maintain mutuality, and move towards a new way of being within the new relationships being built with individuals.

The Manager’s overarching role is to ensure: 

  1. Mentor and support peer support specialists
  2. Internal and external communications are effective and on-going
  3. Data collection is accurate and submitted in a timely manner
  4. Assist the Director in supervising peer support specialists in programs as needed, up to and including: hiring and retention, grant management; and the coordination of staff trainings.

TRAINING RESPONSIBILITES:

Responsible for the day to day operation of the Peer Training Network, collaborates with partners in the registration for planned classes, coordinates marketing and works closely with external training entities. Also facilitates meetings with members of CIPSS community serving on the Peer Training Network Advisory Board. 

Promotes the practice of Intentional Peer Support by organizing relevant trainings required to maintain certification of Maine Certified Intentional Peer Support Specialists. This role works closely with the Office of Behavioral Health to ensure that training is accessible and advertised.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide positive leadership for intentional peer support team.
  • Provides regularly scheduled supervision, including on the spot consultation as needed.
  • Fully understands and is able to actively implement the three principles and four tasks of Intentional Peer Support.
  • Models relationship building, based on the four tasks of intentional peer support, with participants, volunteers and colleagues.
  • Understands and actively implements the Eight Dimensions of Wellness as described by SAMHSA.
  • Gathers and submits data reports in with accordance with grant requirements.
  • Assist in the recruitment, hiring and retention of peer support specialists.
  • Manage various communication platforms to support the Division’s various missions.

  • Actively engages with peer support specialists in their assigned work areas.
  • Ability to support and recognize the important role that volunteers play.  Sweetser employees work with, support, collaborate with volunteers, and promote opportunities for volunteer engagement.
  • Support the Director to address immediate needs.

EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • State of Maine Certified Intentional Peer Support Specialist (CIPSS) Certification required.
  • Meet the annual State of Maine requirements to maintain CIPSS Certification.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Lived experience of Recovery from Mental Illness and/or Co-occurring Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and is willing to self-identify with peers on this basis in the community.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Paid, or unpaid, peer support experience required.

 KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Demonstrates understanding of Intentional Peer Support upon hire.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of personal Recovery.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in all applications contained in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in cloud-based video conferencing applications.
  • Demonstrate strong oral and written skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and accept differences in perspective and values.
